Yes, it is illegal, punishable by jail time and fines in some states. Check out the link below to the US Agriculture Website...they control the food stamp program and list the regulations.

Yes it is illegal. Read the paperwork you get with the foodstamps. Also, I believe it is on the back of the foodstamps as well.

It is a federal offense. You can go to prison for that. You cannot trade, sell or buy things that are not in the food category, like beer, cigs, and dog food, taxable things you cannot pay bills either with food stamps. If someone does accept food stamps that do not belong to them, they are to breaking the law and can go to prison.

Come on! Your dealing with the government. It's common sense. The person who gets the food stamps should have a paper with rules and regulations on it.

Rules for Food Stamps

Your Responsibilities

*

When you apply for food stamp benefits, answer all questions completely and honestly. Sign your name to certify, under penalty of perjury, that all your answers are true.
*

Provide proof that you are eligible.
*

Promptly report changes in household circumstances to the food stamp office.
*

Do not put your money or possessions in someone else’s name in order to be able to get food stamp benefits.
*

Do not make changes on any food stamp cards or documents.
*

Do not sell, trade, or give away your food stamps, or any food stamp cards or documents.
*

Use food stamp benefits only to buy eligible items.

People who break Food Stamp Program rules may be disqualified from the program, fined, put in prison, or all three.

Illegal and immoral.

Food stamps are a gift from your fellow citizens (via the Federal Government) to help you in a time of need. If you don't need them to buy food, you are stealing from your fellow citizens.

You call us morons? I guess you're right. We allow people like you to steal from us. Before you bite the hand that feeds you, perhaps you should take a look in the mirror.

Yes, it is very illegal. You read it in the paper all the time! One man in my town tried to take food stamps for trade in his pawn shop. He got 8 months in jail! It's common sense if you think about it. Food stamps are issued to people whom apply, and are approved PERIOD. Do a little research on it.

Yes. It is fraud. My brother is autistic and on food stamps.

Food stamps are to make sure that he has means to feed himself, that the money he gets is spent appropriately. The government gives him cash, too, for other expenses like rent, cleaning supplies, TP, etc.
