I'm working on creating a new cloth-based product that I need to have manufactured. I'm not sure if I should do it here in the US or in India or China. The product material will be fairly high-end. I've heard that India is often a better place to get this done. Does anyone have any experience doing this or can anyone point me to some good resources on the web?

Thanks!

You need to get in touch with a specialized trader that will arrange sourcing and manufacturing for you.

You could try Li & Fung in Hong Kong:

but they may or may not be interested in your size, since they have some very large accounts...

No. Even with its one child policy China's workforce of over a billion people is far too large to overcome for India. Rather, India's prime strength is its source of educated young people who are now performing many outsourcing jobs for the U.S. Things like computer tech support, medical transcription, engineering, etc. So manufacturing is not India's prime goal: their brainpower is. I'm reading a book called "The Earth is Flat" right now which talks about all this. You'd be amazed at the things India is outsourced for. Like: U.S. businessmen are hiring secretaries in India who do their work and then fax or email the results. Because of the time difference, they can do the work while we sleep, and so the work is waiting for our execs and doctors and such when they arrive for work in the morning.
