It could suggest spyware (or malware) amongst other things.
Firstly, is your PC slow even when your not on the internet? Do you have a firewall installed? If you download Ad-aware or any other "free" anti spyware software see if that helps.
Secondly check to see if the following files exist - AWTSR.DLL or any files that start RSTWA.*** (the *** being the different file extensions). If you have these then you have a biiiggg problem. But hey! Worry not, there is a solution. These files are spyware of the worst kind and are reknown for turning pc's into the equivalant of slugs wading through treacle....in winter.

Now the problem is some files dont let you delete them until windows is shutdown....but when windows is shutdown you cant get to them because DOS no longer exists (yes cheers for that Mr Gates). You need to look for a file called Vundofix on the internet. This file will kill any processes that are running with windows when you shut it down. The instructions are very easy to follow. You should also look for a program called HijackThis which will list any bad entries for you in a report - There are even forums on the internet that use HijackThis and will analyse your reports for you.

Of course it may not be a virus or spyware that you have. It could simply be your telephone line has "dax". This is a way of sharing one line between 2 households if the switch your line goes through is old and full.

Hope one of them helps your problem. Had both happen to me so I know how frustrating it is.

Do you have DSL or Cable?
When is it slow 4pm, how about 8am on a Saturday.
Also how old is your PC, have you runa Defrag on it, erased cookies, deleted the temp folders, how much free space is available, how uch Gigs of Ram?
Also run a spyware, ad-ware scanner

Sounds like spyware. Download Windows Defender from www.microsoft.com and run a spyware scan.

That sounds like either spyware or a virus. I would download AVG Free and Ewido, run a scan, and see what it finds. Otherwise, it's probably a problem with your TCP/IP settings or your ISP.

Could be with your ISP. Even though they say their speed is X, that doesn't mean it necessarily is. Make them check the hub outside or whatever it's called.

Friend of mine in Florida has that problem as the equipment is old and not as fast as the next subdivision even though it's supposed to be.
