“Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, everyday, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to continually be part of unanimity.”

It's pretty interesting. Although, I've always wondered why humans weren't more like the Vulcans from Star Trek. Obviously I wouldn't want to be that way now, but if we were them from the start, they would never want to be like us for the same reason and for the same reason most people don't like the idea of converting to someone else's lifestyle (like on Wife Swap), but the Vulcan culture seem like more of an efficient species. I guess from the beginning our species, for some reason preferred to be more emotional, because ideally no one can ever be the most efficient since the universe is infinite.
Just something to think about.

I like it too. Think what nobody else is thinking, do what nobody is doing, say what nobody is saying, eat what nobody else is eating, live like nobody else is living... It's boring to do and be like everybody else!
“The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.”
“Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it's all over.”
“I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.”
“It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it.”
“To solve any problem, here are three questions to ask yourself: First, what could I do? Second, what could I read? And third, who could I ask?”
“For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.”

I like it. Although, if you sit and really think about it, doing those things might be impossible. I don't know if I can think something that no one else has ever thought before, because there are ~6 billion people on earth right now, not to mention all other people that came before us. It's a nice, fluffly quote in principle, and something maybe we should strive for, but doesn't it sound a little impossible?

Well, if not taken literally, It certainly would be good read books and think thoughts that are not being read and thought by the hoi polloi. As for the 3rd part, I think most people do enough silly things without trying.

I think what he is saying is to be yourself.
Think something no one else is thinking- We each have different thoughts and no one else thinks that same thing the way you do.
Read something no one else is reading- we all get something different out of our books, no one else can get but ourselves.
And do something no one else is silly enough to do. - and this is probably the most obvious of the bunch, it really says be yourself
I really think it is a great saying.

Individuality is important, but it is also important to realize that we are all one on an ethereal level. Unanimity is not necessarily "bad" as long as we don't violate God's commandments.
