I would love to have both, so I don't really have a preference. Cats are a bit easier to take care of than a dog. You can leave a cat at home when you need to travel and just leave dry cat food and water out for it if it's an indoor cat. With outdoor cats and dogs (whether inside or outside dogs), you have to decide on what to do with them; have someone take care of them such as a neighbor or relative or take them to a kennel.

both are great.......but I pick cats. I have had a dog and want another in time...but cats are much easier.

cats only require 15 mins of attention per day.
cats don't need to be let out, walked, caged, etc.
cats won't eat your shoes, clothes, leather products
cats are cheaper at the vet and on weekly food
cats are cleaner and stink less specially if they get wet
cats can sleep with you and not take up 1/2 the bed
cats are quiet, won't get neighbors complaining about them barking
cast are hilarious to watch when they play, they will make you laugh for hours.
you can leave a cat at home for up to a week alone for vacation. can't with a dog
don't need a yard or pooper scooper for a cat

get a saved one from the SPCA or a local clinic...these will give you the most love as they realize they got a 2nd chance. cats from pet stores normally have health or mental issues due to cross breading so much.

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats (tho honestly I'd say they own ME moreso than I own them) I love them all, but I'm more of a dog person than a cat person when it comes right down to it..The reason for this is because I'm lazy. I don't want to have to work for my animals affection, and the dogs give their unconditional love no matter what...the cats make you work for their affection.

Well, I love dogs but because of our lifestyle a cat would be the pet of choice because a cat doesn't need so much attention and with food and water available can be alone in the house during the day.

Cat because dogs are too needy. Cats can be left alone though the night and can be left alone during the day without worrying whether you'll have to wear bedroom slippers to work the next day because your dogs have eaten all of the rest of your shoes.

Definitely a dog! Dogs are so much fun to play with. They really love you and they show you that everyday. I find cats very boring and they seem like they could care less about people. Go dogs!

I prefer Dogs over cats (even though i have both). They are more personable, they will be a friend if you treat them right. Dogs are generally smarter. You can teach a dog to sit, stay, fetch the paper, and even more advanced things if you are willing to spend the time with them. I recomend Jack russel terriers, htey are easy to train and ushually have great personalities, but there are many good breeds.

I have one of each, the dog is smarter, the cat more affectionate. They both beg for food, they both go outside and let you know when they need to go.The cat is a bit more hairy, its only downside.I love them both!! But I think the dog has more personality so if I must choose, the dog!!

Well, lets see; I own both, 2cats, 2 dogs.
I love my dogs but I have owned my cats longer.
(one is ten years old the other is 3 yrs old) So my answer is Cats they are less messy, they are independent, loveably, and I don't have to walk them.
