My (step)nephew got married in Newark castle in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland which is 5 minutes from our house! All the guys were in kilts of course, I made up all the invites, orders of service etc. in an old 'celtic' style, the halls are all really ancient looking and the food served was traditional Scottish haggis etc.
With places like this, its what you make of them. Imagine the place all decked out in stunning flowers, a ceilidh band playing, no formalities etc. etc. everybody having a really great time.
Oh yeh....and you're only 20 minutes from Glasgow so a few 'hen' nights out at 'Bennets' would be in order!
We've also got a really nice female registrar who did my pals wedding (first girls in Scotland) and some totally stunning places for photographs (believe it or not, my dads house is set into grounds used by many local couples)

Good Luck with your forthcoming wedding. My girlfriend and I are hoping to get married next year but we're opting for a quiet affair then off to Provincetown and Boston.
All the best, Biggy
As for Loch Lomond..........be prepared to pay a fortune!

If you don't mind going north look at Bamburgh Castle which stands on a rock outcrop on the Northumbrian coast. It is beautiful and very romantic. I've been to a wedding there and it was a great atmosphere since they hold them in the great hall.

Good luck and congratulations.

I suggest you contact a wedding planner in England. Since gay marriage is now leagal there I'm sure they have all sort of great place that allow such weddings and can help you book them and plan some of the bigger aspects to your wedding.

No good looking for anywhere in the British Isles for a gay wedding. Legally there is no such thing. You could however opt for Civil Partnership, this is legal and becoming very popular.

bamburgh castle in northumberland is right on the coast, not sure if its smouldering enough for you like, but it is surrounded by fantastic scenery.
