Here's an idea: Go to one of those automated engraving machines at the front of stores like Wal-mart and make him a set of dog-tags, one with his info and the other with yours. There is a spot for a short sentiment too. I did this and they turned out beautifully. Cost: $US 10.00 for two.

I.D. Bracelet with his name on it. You can then have a small message engraved on the inside from you.
New relationships: do not give things like Clothing, perfume, etc. (they may think you don't like what they wear). Don't give anything sappy like a teddy bear, etc. (he may think you are babying him).
If he isn't the type to like an ID bracelet, then something personal would be nice. (example: he likes football, get him something that symbolizes his favorite team).

A dictionary. Then you can borrow it and learn how to spell.
Seriously, get him something related to his hobbies/interests. If he likes baseball, get him a baseball cap. If he likes cars, get him a book about cars. Or a new car.
