Usually an asterisk (*).

list smit*

Would show anything begging with smit, e.g. smith smiths smitty etc.

list *mit*

Would show anything with mit in the middle e.g. smith omits etc.

Sometimes a question mark is a single character wild card

list smit?

would show smith, but not smiths

HOTSPOT is an area on a web page that can be clicked when you move the mouse over it, e.g. a map of England may have a hotspot on each county for you to click and list more info by county

A wild card is * followed by and extension or * for the extension. It basically says "all" For example: *.exe, *.jpg and so on. What I use it for is like for a search for the day on the computer. I will put *.* to give both the file and also all the formats to find if there is anything unusual on the computer along with a time frame.

they'd desire to have the skill to hold directly to the Wild Card in the event that they are in a position to maintain up with the forged pitching. we are at present in 2d place in the AL in group era so this is been very consistent maximum of this year. If Hamilton and Kinsler can proceed to get warm back then we are honestly going to win the Wild Card. We only gotta persist with the different communities in the Wild Card and desire that their combatants can help us win that card. i think of Francisco is a extra useful determination for nearer reason he's often been useful while pitching even with the injuries this season. C.J. would be stable or he would desire to be shaky, he's extra useful off pitching set up.

wild cards are signs with a multiple function. the most used wild cards are the asterix * and the question mark ?

the "?" sign represents exactly 1 character, e.g.

the "*" (asterix) sign represents any number of characters, e.g.
*star = all words ending with star
star* = all words beginning with star
*star* = all words containing star
*mot*her* = all words containing "mot" AND "her"

Basically, it's something you type into a search box when you don't know all the information.

For example in Windows, if you search under *.doc, it brings up all the Word documents. The * is the wild card.

It differs in other systems though, for example in Oracle it's a %.

A wild card is usually a character like an asterisk (*) that can represent any character. So comp* could represent computer, comptroler, compensation, compensatory, etc.
