Imagine the rage if that was in America and we had "help" for protection.

Absolutely not - in fact, it is in no way a consolation that so many of those who have died were not Americans. So strange it is that all of us want the same things - conservatives and liberals alike...we all want stability and prosperity to come to the middle east, but we differ so widely on how to achieve those things. I honestly believe that the minute we forget that ALL those who have lost their lives because of this war were flesh and blood, sons and daughters who are now and will be missed by their families -is the very minute that the war will be irrivocably lost....

My poor ignorant friend, learn more of the situation before asking a question, the 650,000 number, we all know it to be incorrect, it was a study by a biased British Study group, the number from Arab institutes estimates it at quite accuratly about 120,000, maybe, anyways it would be irrelevent if it were 650,000, what do you suggest we do oh brilliant one???? leave the Iraqis to their fate??? I think not.

Seems like it. To me, the US is failing in Iraq but won't openly say it so as not to lose support and increase int'l opposition. I don't know how your president can even think about sleeping at night when what he has done had killed so many Iraqis...
As to why you are there, that's for you to figure out. I hope that this mission suceeds so that Iraq after hundreds of years will finally be at peace....

No, it's not easy to hear of any INNOCENT deaths. Our troops are there by orders... the terrorists that keep violence continuing in Iraq do so by choice. What does the U.S. want in Iraq??? For everything to calm down, for the citizens of that country to elect the government they want, for Iraq security forces to step up to their job, and to get the hell out. Period. It's not about oil, it's not about Bush I. Since you brought up the issue... what is your plan? I'm certainly open to a good ideal.

The democrat plan is to get the troops out today. That is according to what at least 42% of the American public voted for. Never mind that it would destabilize the middle east, disrupt the supply of oil, sky rocket the price of gas exponentially, cause economic disaster across the globe and provide a safe haven for terrorist to launch attacks against us. The American public is so wise aren't they?

It should never be easy to hear of 650 000 deaths no matter what nationality. It appears that unless the ruling G8 of the world can gleam anything from whatever country is under fire, they will not intervene. Refer back to Rhodesia/Rawanda etc.

To the average American, I would say yes because as a nation we tend to gravitate towards numbers that don't suggest casualties of our Men and Women over seas. We don't like to hear about civilian deaths, but we come to accept them more easily because they aren't one of us. Sure there is someone's dad, mom, cousin, aunt, uncle, child, grandparent, etc. in the mix, but we don't feel that their loss is as great as ours. Its simply human nature.

Your numbers are laughably exaggerated, and you thus have lost most (all?) of your credibility.

See http://www.iraqbodycount.org/

The fact that you're still asking "why we are there" only tells me how little you have read (and cared) about this topic.

Stick to Playstation.

To be honest I don't care if Iraqies kill each other, the more the merrier. And I don't feel our troops need to be there, we can kill them from here.

Yes, it is easier.

Act like wild animals, die like wild animals.

Act like civilized people, trying to advance society, then I will care.
