I have just gotten a large area rug and Ihave put it on a bare floor. Do I need to put something under the rug. It is not slipping or anythhing.

For extra comform you must first place a cushion foam on the bare floor and on top of this pout your rug.It's prolong the life of a rug as well as add much comfort.It doesnot matter slipping or anything..It does matter!

They have non skid for carpets in the throw rug department at Kmart or Walmart.

But you can use extra carpet padding and it improves the cushion of the carpeting a lot. Much more comfy.

I just did it for a 5 by 7 in my entry way. It made a huge difference. See if you can get a piece the size you need from a carpet installer.
The sponge will actually tape together with duck tape allowing you to use scraps.

I think just in case better put something. You never know when you might trip on it, or a kid running around might slip. I'm going to sound like my grandmother but better safe than sorry.

I would say "no".But I think once you start washing it,it will lose it's grip.
