Elizabeth 1st
Queen Mary was under guard in a stately home and spies produced evidence that she was still involved in the plot to depose Elizabeth.
This would have put England in turmoil, Elizabeth was a very shreud ruler and had united all England throiugh religious tolerance. Mary was a Catholic and vowed to bring catholicosm back ergo lots of killing again!
So the advisors of Elizabeth were against Mary.
Elizabeth did not want to put her cousin to death, and her advisors knew of her habit of signing death warants only to recind them the next day.
So they co-erced her into signing the warrant by getting her into a temper. As soon as she signed it, they took the warrant at the dead of night to where Mary was being kept, and carried out the execution in the early hours of the morning.
The next day, Elizabeth was in turmoil as she had been tricked by her own advisors. She went into a sulk with them, putting some of em in the tower!
Elizabeth being the daughter of Anne Boleyn had always been under threat of beheading most of her life! Especially when her sister Mary was on the throne. Her life is fascinating, and deserves a proper read as how she kept herself together and ruled England was no mean feat!!
I think she was the most strongest woman in history!

Mary, Queen of Scots, was executed on the order of her cousin Elizabeth I of England. Mary was, and had always been, the focus of the desire of certain factions of the English nobility to re-establish Catholicism as the true religion of England. There have been many conspiracy theories as to the true involvement of Mary in the various plots to unthrone Elizabeth, and the general consensus is that she must have had her fingers in at least some of the plots!

That's right. She was the daughter of the Scottish king. Her father died when she was 6 days old. So, in less than one week of life, she became the Queen of Scotland. She married the son of the French King, but he soon died. Then she came back to Scotland. It was rumoured that she was trying to take the English throne. Her ministers were certainly engineering some things, but it is unknown whether Mary was a party to it. In all probability, she was. But her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I, had her imprisoned for many years. She was eventually found guilty trying to kill the English Queen and take the English Throne--she was beheaded. Her son, James, became James VI of Scotland. He was eventually named as the heir to the English Throne, and soon, after Elizabeth's death, became James I of England.
