Tune up ~ tune up~ tune up. Just about any worn or old tune up part (filters and ignition) will raise emissions worst being a bad spark plug wire. Major tune up and fresh oil can do wonders otherwise you have a mechanical problem (leaky valves?)be sure the vacuum lines are ALL good and hooked up right.

Have a qualified auto mechanic tune the vehicle and drive the vehicle as if you have a full glass of water sitting on the dash.

1. keep your car tuned up. make that check engine light go away by fixing the problems as they arise.
2. use a manual transmission. drive 90 kph (55mph) on the highway, and 50kph (30mph) in 4th gear in the city.

Keep your engine in good tune, drive with a light foot on the gas, and make sure your catalytic convertor is functioning properly if your car is equipped with one.
