No, many years ago women thought that stretching could actually move the umbilical cord to position itself around the babies neck. Now we all know that normal activity is fine. Many women exercise, swim, work and many other activities during pregnancy.

No this is NOT true and just a very silly old wives tale!

Come on, think about this for a minute: if our placentas and umbillical cords couldn't handle us raising our arms above our heads, our poor babies would never make it!

It is an old wive's tale that states if you raise your hands above your head that the cord will get wrapped around the baby's neck and cord accidents are actually quite rare.

I heard that too. Not sure if it is true or not but I was cautious when I was further along. This lady I worked with told me that it caused the umbilical cord to wrap around the baby's neck. Not sure if I believe though.

I heard the same thing. I was told it has something to do with the cord wrapping around the baby's neck. I was careful not to do so with all my pregnancies except my last one I was stretching and reaching over my head sometimes ...and he was actually born with the cord around his neck. Not sure if that really made the difference or not but why take a chance. Good Luck

I've always heard that too. It has something to do with the cord wrapping around the neck or something. I am curious to see the answers on this one.

They used to say that for fear of the umbilical cord getting around its neck. They don't go by that anymore. I did it all the time and my baby just turned one saturday. If you feel it would harm your baby though, don't do it. Better safe then sorry. And always ask your doctor.

No in the old days they said this cause they though that it would allow the cord to wrap around the baby's neck but it doesn't.
