In detail without any euphemisms. She needs to hear it and you need to learn how to have responsible conversations with your daughter. There are many more conversations to come including sex, smoking, drugs...

Tell her that when puberty comes a girl become fertile. In which roughly every 28 days she will bleed for 3-7 days. This is because a week before this happens her body's ovaries release an ovum down through the fallopian tubes and to the uterus. This is how her body reproduces. Females release an egg to be released by a male's sperm.

Explain to her about the symptoms other than bleeding. Eg. cramps, mood swings, food cravings, breast tenderness, etc.

You have a lot of good answers here. There is a book called 'The Care and Keeping of You' from American Girl. I bought it for my daughter for her to look at and we look at it together, and it explains a lot about being a girl, including a period. Don't worry, it will be less embarrassing the more you talk about these things!

Don't be nervous, just sit her down and explain that there are things that are going to be happening to her body that are totally normal. Then explain what a period is, tell her that you will be there for her if she needs you and to not be afraid to ask you any questions she might have. Make her feel comfortable.

1. Honesty 2. Explain that it is a part of becoming a woman, as she physically develops. Also tell her about her hygiene options, how long normal menses last, and to let you know if she has abnormal pain during periods.
be sure she knows after it starts, pregnancy is a possibility if she becomes sexually active. 3. Let her know she can talk to you if she has questions or when there is a problem.

How old is your daughter? If she is nearing puberty, than she needs to know. Otherwise, leave it til she's a bit older.
Explain to her about the cycle of the egg being released and if not fertilised, the egg is passed out with the blood that was lining the uterus.

gosh, why don't you tell her the story of your first one.
where you were and how it happened. and what your mom
had told you. consider getting a book from the library to help you.
tell her you are nervous but it is important that she know.
explain how you take care of it, show her your pads or tampons.
say, honey, we need to have a talk about being a woman.
you will become a woman, and this will be part of your life.
when this happens, we will call it "celebrating" and we will have hot chocolate.

Just explain to her everything she wants to know. Dont lie about anything and dont leave anything out. If she has questions answer them honestly. I never talked to my mother about my period so I did not know what to expect and I kinda scared me so just casually bring it up and talk to her about it. She may get embarrassed but she will appreciate it.

Tell her that once a month her body will clean itself out. and this is how your body cleans itself out.

If she wants to know more just explain that she has eggs and once a month the egg is released and after a week needs to be cleaned out to make room for another one.

just point to one.

thats the size of her eggs.

no seriously, whats the big deal.

her body gears up for maybe becoming pregnant every month or so, when or if she doesn't , all that bloody lining just comes out and is sometimes messy but its normal. Get some pads and keep them around.
