Not for me, but each person is different.

Citalopram is generic celexa. You may start off on a dose that's too low to be clinically effective, but in my case, it brought tremors and didn't do a whole heckofalot to make me feel better.

If you're not affected by tremors, then it may be great for you. You will need to try different things for extended periods of time to figure out what works and what doesn't work for you.

My other half is on it, before going on it, he was a bit of a mess. He was just floored by depression. Now he is much cheerier and can easily get past things that before would have been impossible. I do think that they make him get angry at things more, but in my opinion, at least he's not so depressed.

I'm a firm believer in what Trisha (on ITV) says - pills alone aren't enough, you need the councelling to go with them. The pills can open you up to councelling and give you an alright state of mind in which to take on board your new programing (teehee) but the councelling is what is going to set you up for life and mean you can get over things and move on - so you should really combine the two. Then eventually wean off them and hopefully be ok again.

Another thing to mention: when my man has stopped (usually because he's not got organised enough to go to the doctors for a repeat prescription) he gets really bad headaches all the time, and feels dizzy. So I do think, in this case, that they need to be weaned off.

However, anti-depressants seem to affect everyone differently. It seems to me that often people have to try a few different brands before they find one that suits them. They CAN have a lot of different side affects that aren't particularly good. Your doctor will help you find the right ones - but it does work on a trial and error basis.

My doctor put me on it 2 years ago and I felt dizzy and sick, then after 3 months stopped it.

Due to another crisis in my life this year, and a different doctor recommending it, went on Citralopram for 6 months and think it really worked, but have now stopped again and did not notice any difference and my doctor applauded me for stopping

Citralopram definitely affects your sex life and orgasms and no interest.

I took it for a year when suffering from depression. It acted as a crutch for me until I had some therapy. When I was on it, it made me feel sleepy and as though I was dreaming sometimes. It surpressed my appetite for a while, then I'd get ravenously hungry all at once. No anti-depressent is 100% beneficial, but it did the job it was supposed to for me, without the side-effects being too drastic.

I was on it for about 8 months I think after gradually weaning off of it. I had had a miscarriage and a few months later my friend gave birth which made me feel really down. At first I was worried about taking the tablets because of all the stories you hear about anti-depressants. I did notice that if I forgot to take one I felt strange but it didn't affect my daily life. Within a couple of months I was 'back to normal' and am glad I took them because they really did help. Hope this helps. Take care.
