In general most conservatives prefer substance over style and popularity, I know in my personal life if I don't respect someone their opinion of me is irrelevant. Now if you look at the world a lot of nations do not like us I will admit that, but you aslo forget there are many nations that many Americans and our government do not have any respect for, like Cuba ,France, Venuzuela, Iran Syria, Libya, North Korea, many in Europe to numerous to list, and just a little food for thought if you found out that scums agree with you what does that say about you. The measure of a true friend or ally is that you can disagree without being disagreeable.

I don't think anyone really knows how many repubs feel that way. For all we know, many dems could feel the same way. What has happened is that the U.S. is becoming not only more and more hated, but many other allied countries are losing confidence in us. Sometimes people hold on to old tired rhetorical beliefs just because they can. Not because they really want to. They care, but they don't want to let go.....

I do not accept your premise, I spent 2wks in Italy, and a month in Greece Turkey and Estonia, I did not find that the people in these, generally speaking, socialist countries hated us. What you espouse is what the main stream media in America reports, they love to highlight the negative. If you travel as I do you will find that America is dearly admired around the world. Most who hate us are those who are in power and have something to lose if America succeeds. There will always be people who are angry with us. Didn't your momma tell you to ignore idiots?

America bashing has been around for a very long time. Look at what's happening right now - the world is pissed we went into Iraq, but at the same time, we're expected to intervene in Darfur. Which, by the way, is yet another Muslim-on-Muslim civil war. Based on that information alone, why should we get involved? It wouldn't take long before someone started crying that we're anti-Muslim, or interfering where we're not wanted, etc.
Most countries that "hate" us either take a lot of money from us, or we've saved their bacon in the past. Personally, I think we should tell them all to get bent and start taking care of Americans with the money we give to Egypt, Palestine, etc.
What country on earth makes their laws based on other countries opinions?

They are 'staying the course'.. from their armchairs. The rest of us do believe in world co-operation.
EDIT: Arcticchick.. How can you be so misinformed? Dafur for your information is conducted by Arabs against the Black population of the region. They are primarily Christians. Isn't it better that you investigate your facts before your utterances that confirm your ignorance of world events?

The role of a government is to protect the rights of it's people, and also to protect it's own sovereignity for the purpose of continuing said protection. As such, the United States government really doesn't care about what other nations think, because it's really irrelevant to said purpose.
Britain doesn't consult with Spain to determine Civil Law, so why would the US consult with, say France? Other nations say "The government should provide me with health care". We say "I want to be so wealthy that I can afford my own health care in addition to whatever else I want." Just one example.
In other words, we don't listen to others about our affairs because, quite frankly, it's generally none of their business.
And in future questions, please be a bit more specific about which issues others disagree with. For example, I seem to remember other nations agreeing with us about invading Afghanistan.

Life is not a popularity contest. I don't let those that don't have an interest in my well being or those that have an interest in seeing me fail dissuade me from pursuing actions that secure my interest whatever those may be. Why should I expect anything less from my government.

When you answer your own question wrong, that's bad!
Both parties, with all their different ideas are trying to accomplish the same thing. Only when they include people like you does it make it a useless system!

Odd, my sister in law, who is from England, just came over for a visit, she clearly told me that the media plays up the idiots, and most in Enlgand are considering voting for the BNP.
So, no, it doesn't bother me that idiots disagree with me.

The world as a whole has never agreed with the US nor do they like us. Why should we be concerned about them.
We do what is right and just, that's what makes the US stand above and beyond all others.
