About 12 hours ago I was scratched by a kitten...quickly washed and put antiseptic on it. Can barely see the wound, but a few hours later it started to hurt to bend my finger...no swelling, no other pain, more like a bruised feeling when I try to bend my finger. I'm allergic to antibiotics and would have to be hospitalised if they give them to me, so I don't want to run off unnecessarily, but I"m a bit concerned. Thanks.

It is way too soon for an infection. Probably just the normal healing process. It is normal for a scratch to hurt when you bend it. If it starts to swell and get really red, then see your doctor about it. For now, just soak it in some cool water, dry it off, put more antiseptic on it and cover it with a bandaid.

Have you ever heard of "Cat Scratch Fever" It's what you have. Cats have dirty claws from the cat box and such. That's why their scratches turn red and hurt more then you would expect. Get some hydrogen peroxide and clean the wound a couple times a day and you'll be fine.

Is it hot to the touch? You said it isnt swollen. Is it red at all? If not, its most likely hurting just from the scratch and bending. Fingers always hurt more because they are always being used.

Kitten scratches don't usually lead to infections.

Kitten bites often do, because their mouths are filthy--it's one of the ways their ancestors brought down their prey.

As long as the scratch doesn't get yellow and pus filled, you're prolly okay.

If it's not red and swelling, and considerring that you did treat it promptly, it's probably just healing.
