Can you still get an epurduial if you have a tattoo on your lower back?

People are just saying yes and have no clue. There was an article on this in the paper where I live a while back. Basically, some aneasthesiologists won't do it without removing a chunk of skin where they want to do it first. The needle does put skin cells into the spinal fluid. That's why they sterilize the area first. Without knowing what's in the dye in the tattoo, some aneasthesiologists are unwilling to risk it, and will either not do an epidural or remove a 1/4 inch round of skin first.

Basically, there's no known cases of a problem, but nobody is sure its safe either.

Most definately. It will not prevent you from having anything like that done, and your tattoo won't be any worse for the wear. If you have any scabbing from the needle hole (unlikely), just put some unscented lotion on it to keep the skin moist while healing, just like you did when you first got the tattoo.

they usually give you your epidural mid back. kinda funny feeling really..
