See a divorce attorney. Pay the $50 consultation fee.
My opinion is this: No, you are not married and you get nothing except that earned by and/or between the two of you. Of course you would have to prove that in court if he didn't just hand it over. This is just one of a dozen reasons people should not live together without benefit of marriage. The guy gets it all, including you as an unpaid you-know-what. I always advise women to get the going price for "doing it" with a guy who didn't even have to buy the cow. Everytime you "give it up" demand $50 upfront each time and then you will come out of it with something. As it stands, you get nothing. And Common Law in CA used to be 7 years but I do not thing the law is on the books anymore.

It is called a common law marriage, but I doubt you will get 50% if you leave. It may be like in a divorce, that you each would own your personal property or money that you had before you were together, and then split the community property. But it all depends on the laws of California, and if the courts would consider you guys "married" or not.

First, find out if California supports common law marriage and if so, what the limit is. Some states require seven years, others require ten. If there isn't a common law marriage in CA, then no, you don't get 50% of what he owns if you weren't legally married to him. Sorry.

You're not entitled to anything he owns, but you are entitled to things you both own together. Call a lawyer and find out what the laws are in your state.
