The plug is called a "gauge" (rhymes with "cage"). People gauge their ears by getting a normal piercing, and then, every few weeks, going back to the piercing salon to have slighlty larger (and tighter) gauges put in. Over time the ear holes get bigger and bigger as the ear stretches.

If you ever want to have normal "hole-less" ears again, though, it requires surgery to take out the extra skin. So think carefully before going too big with those holes.

The are 2 ways. One is stetching. Most ears are pierced with a 16-18g. The bigger u stretch the lower the number. Mine are curretly a 00...basically I can fit a pen through them. Another way is dermal punch...ouch!

For the chick above me....stretched ears CAN return to normal size without surgery. The "point of no return" is usually a 0 or 00.

Ear-streatching is part of "Body modification", just like tattooing and piercing.

The process of streching occurs over a period of time. They typical size earring is placed in the hole (a new hole or an old one). An eraring with a larger diameter post then replaced the standard earring.

Over time there are "plugs" that are used in place of earrings which are larger still in diameter. The end result is the ear skin that is around the earring stretches open to allow even larger plugs to go in, thus expanding the earlobe more.

If you are considering it, do be advised that the skin stretching is permenent. Onve your earlobes are streched like that, only cosmetic surgery can possibily return them to their normal state.

someof them look massive but actually it is only the outer bit and it goes skinny near the bit that they put through their ear and some of them force it through until their ear gets used to it and strtches out . nasty but some people like it. the ones o hate most are the ones where they stretch their whole ear lobe around a metal hoop. look at the pic in google (nasty) : type www.google.co.uk and then type in stretched earing.

yeah the dont have to be "massive" they can be as like, here you can just stick a pencil through your ear. and it isnt that big. it looks pretty cool. theyre called gadges.. alright i dont know if i spelt that right. but my sister was being a complete retard and she stuck 4 earings in one ear hole and she kept it there for a few days and then the hole got bigger. but i dont recomend doing that because she said it hurts like hell. just let the professionals handle it

Well for some reason our recent culture has seen it fit to duplicate the traditions of primitve african culture and cure flesh over time to take stranger and stranger shapes. In the case of these earings, you gradually get larger studs until eventually the hole is that large. I wouldn't reccomend it, it's very painful.

they can either slowly guage their ears by moving up a size every few weeks or go to a professional and get their ears punched to the desired size.
