okay, heres the deal - i have a dell desktop - its about 3 years old and for about the past 6 months it will sometimes randomly restart while i am on it. it mainly does it when i have like 3 or 4 windows open at a time or if i go to my friends myspace page that has a lot of crap on it.

anyway, i was told i should get it checked out, so last week i took it to a computer repair shop - they checked it out and said that it just had a few viruses and removed them and installed a new virus program. well it keeps restarting and on one of the occasions that it restarted it said something about checking a driver. i have no clue what to do now - please help!

some more info: they gave me the virus program nod and they also added adaware and spybot. when i brought it to them i asked them to fix the restart problem, but i also asked them to install the virus program nos as well.

as for checking the drivers - i went to my computer and checked them - none of them have ? marks next to them.

you may need to reinstall windows. i had to do that a couple months ago cause i was having the same problem. that sometimes happens when you get to much spyware on your computer. you could also buy a program called noadware. it will clear out any spyware that could be affecting your computer. hope it helps!

Two main possible reason for this could be.
One , you may have a virus , trojan/spyware , Also where did you take your computer in to get repaired? I hope you took it an actualy computer store , Where they know what to do. Some viruses are impossible and I mean impossible to get out. I had a trojan I believe it was on my old labtop. It was tooken in to a friend to get fixed , he took out other viruses but not the trojan. He's a computer person.

Also , how long do you use your computer for? The computer could be overheating which is rare and it will automatically restart. have you over clocked your Processor/Graphics card or messed with anything? If so it could be that. It can also be restarted by its self if to many things are being loaded at once , more of what the computer can handle.

Your computer is old. If you have the money I suggest getting a new one. My computer is about 16 months old and isn't that great. I suggest getting a good computer (an expensive one). The "good" ones go for about 1400$ USD , Minimum.

I can help you more If you have Yahoo instant messenger Or Aol instant messenger. I need to know more details though. Up to date drivers might help you. But I doubt it.

What were the terms of your agreement with the computer repair shop? Did you ask them to fix your restart problem or did you ask them to check for viruses? You may want to take it back to them if you can afford to have them look at it again.

If you're running Windows XP, or Windows 2000:
To check your drivers, right click on the "My Computer" icon.
Select "properties" from the context menu.
Click on the "Hardware" tab.
Click on the "Device Manager" button.
If you have devices that do not have a driver installed, they will have a yellow question mark for the icon. If a specific type of driver was referenced in the error message, check that driver by right clicking on it and selecting "properties". There will be an "update driver" button that you can click to help you search for a more recent driver or to replace a corrupted driver.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
