I was wondering how much time it'd take for my husband and I to get custody of his two little girls. We are married in a stable home, I'm a full time student at ECPI, and he has his Associates Degree, and a full time, stable job.

The mother has had at least 4 jobs in the last few months, she lives with her boyfriend in a 2 bedroom/1bath appartment. He has a pretty good job, and both girls are in school.

We found out that his oldest daughter went to school and told her teacher that her mom and her mom's BF were beating her, and her mother has admitted to spanking her with a belt, and I have found many other bruises in curious places on both girls, and I took pictures.

The oldest girl also has had bruises on her arms that slightly looked like someone had squeezed her arms, and I was blamed for it, and the mother went to DSS and got me into trouble about it. The child said she didn't know where the buises came from and told the social worker and the police that I didnt grab her

I just need to know how hard it is going to be to ge custody of the girls. We don't have the money to spend years fighting their mother for custody, but I can't stand to think of her beating on them!! I have never hit those girls and I never would.

Anyone know about this subject in South Carolina Law?

I am from Florida, but there is something call investigation and until Family & Children Services do not finish with their findings. Your good name need to be clear of any suspesions. Only then you can request to have your case looked over for a custody request. The court have lawyes that work for "FREE" that is right. Is what they call a bonus case or charity cases. Go to your local Coourt House and you would be surprise to see all the help available the people don not even know existed.

Get a lawyer to work this out. But also-- if you're a full-time student and he works full time, who will care for the 2 kids all day? Day care? That's not going to fly. You're going to have to quit school and be a mother to them, not fit them into your full-time schedule with daycare and babysitters. If you don't have the money for a lawyer to resolve this, how will you provide for the needs of 2 small children?

You need to have a lawyer for this one. It is very hard to prove a mother unfit, but you must if the children are indeed being abused. In some states they have the kids interviewed, alone without the parents hanging over them to get to the real story. Good luck to you.

I think the amount of time it would take to get custody depends on how much money you throw out and how quickly to a lawyer and the courts. Basically, today's court systems are all about the almighty dollar.

Get your lawyer and take them to court. If they find that the ex-wife and her bf are not suitable parents, they will most likely grant your hubby custody.
