It is vile and should be called The Unpatriot Act. Loss of civil liberties should never be thought of as patriotic.
I disagree with your boss. What exactly are we supposed to be fighting for if we agree to give up our rights for more security? Nazi Germany was one of the most secure places on earth, (as long as you were one of the "right" people.)
As for the people that claim they have felt no impact, other people have. Is it only wrong if it affects you directly? When somebody arbitrarily labels you a terrorist and you lose all rights, it is simply wrong.

If you read the thing you'll see that in the idea of it the Act is perfect for securing the homeland. The problem, though, is that when realism hits you'll see that "Terrorist" in the act is not clearly defined and so there's the possibility of wrongful arrests. In addition to get surveilance before you needed support from the Supreme Court. With the passing of this act if they're a terrrorist or suspected terrorist or even if a leader just thinks so, he/she can be watched or arrested for an unlimited amount of time.
I'm all for catching terrorists. If they just tweaked the bill to be more specific and didn't jump over other constitutional laws then I'd be behind it.
{edit}
Actually, one of my other least favourite parts is how they use the term Patriot or Freedom-Loving American to try to guilt the reader into agreeing with whatever the bill says...... Isn't that ridiculous? Being a patriot is love of one's country. THAT'S all!!! The rest is just people bickering over small stuff.

I'd like to respond to your question by quoting one of my favorite patriots. The great Ben Franklin once said that any man willing to sacrifice freedom for security deserves neither freedom nor security.
Personally, I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment. There are much better ways of coordinating intelligence to better thwart terrorist activity than spying on the domestic practices of US citizens.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.... YUP... Getting the weapons removed from human beings would be somewhat tough however... it will be ok till the observe gets out then all H311 will destroy lose... Like attempting to get a bone from a starving wolf... you're able to do it yet only after capturing it... and persons might observe the mess... and the wolf might grow to be the hunter... Incoherent sufficient for you? FNS

Ben Franklin said that security at the expense of liberty was not security at all.
I suppose I would support any issue, however, that would protect American lives, so long as the constitution and law of the nation were obeyed and that there is prudent, scholarly oversight.

Many claim the Patriot Act infringes on our right to privacy. The fact is I have felt NO infringement of any of my rights. If they have listened to my conversations I am unaware and really couldn't care less even if they had. You see I do not discuss anything that could be misconstrued as a potential terrorist threat. Only those that are engaging in destructive acts should worry about the Patriot Act. Otherwise let those who's job it is to protect us, do so.

Like a previous poster, I'm not feeling any impact from the Patriot Act. I keep hearing that my rights are being taken away, but haven't had any problems yet.
Privacy in this day and age is only an illusion at best. Besides, do you *really* think that if a gov't agency wants information on you, they can't get it without the PA? If so, I have a beautiful bridge in the Bay area I'd love to sell you....

Much Ado About Nothing.
Still waiting to find out exactly which freedoms I lost with the Patriot Act. Apparently the people claiming that we have all lost freedoms never bothered to read the text of the law.

It's a load of crap that takes away our liberties and freedoms. It has set an evil precedent paving the way for the possiblility of the government spying and making war on its own people. It makes us no safer - a people in fear do not engender a safe society. Walk tall. V
