If you can post further info on the specs of your machine I can more accurately answer your question. (CPU Speed, Ram, Video Card, Sound Card, etc.)

The two biggest issues are programs running in the background and hardware. If you have multiple programs running, close them and see if it works better. You can see what applications are running by pressing ctrl-alt-del at the same time and checking the Task Manager.

If not, then this may be a hardware issue. Purchasing a sound card upgrade if your computer has built-in onboard sound would most likely solve the problem. If you already own a dedicated soundcard then make sure you have the most up to date drivers installed. You can also try using a different DVD application to see if theres a difference.

Try updating your audio drivers.

Check the Windows Update Web site to see if there are any updated drivers. To go to the Windows Update Web site, click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Update.

If Windows Update does not list a compatible or updated driver, contact your sound device manufacturer, or visit their Web site, to obtain a driver that is compatible with Windows XP.

There are several reasons that this could be happening.
One is that the speakers on your computer could be faulty, another is that the computer doesn't have a good enough sound card.
The DVD itself(the disk) is scratched.

Hope its a good movie.

Hmmm - how much memory do you have. Is this a new problem or always happens during playback?
