I am currently on birth control, I wasn't always. I was with a guy for over two years and we had sex unprotected. We weren't trying to get pregnant, we were just being stupid. BUT I still did not get pregnant. Less than a year after we broke up he had his own child. I am only 20 years old but will eventually want to have kids. Does this mean I am sterile or could there be another explanation?

It could be anything BUT

Did you know that some girls (mostly younger) do get pregnant but because their body senses they aren't ready they miscarrage. And because the girl didnt know she was pregnant she just thinks its a heavy period.
You could also just be super lucky. It only takes one time to get pregnant but that one time could take a thousand times to happen.
Who knows, you might be sterile but don't worry about it because you probably aren't. When you are ready to have kids go to a OBGYN and get a check-up.

He could have been infertile, or though rare sometimes two people's DNA just isn't very compatible and it leads to problems conceiving and very early miscarriages (like the first 2-4 weeks so you may not realize you were pregnant).

However, even though you are not currently trying to get pregnant it i worth discussing with a doctor. Certain conditions that can cause infertility are reversible and may be easier to treat sooner rather than later. Particularly certain infections.

Oh and macrophages are some new thing in infertility. I have friends who tried for 7 years and did all sorts of crazy treatments and just before they did IVF they changed doctors to a doctor who treats everyone for these macrophages automatically. They got pregnant the next month. All they did was take a round of something like an antibiotic, so low risk and no big deal. It is just awful it took so long to get a doctor who knew about them. Though this is a new discovery in the last few years.

My ex husband and I tried to conceive for years with no luck. After our divorce he remarried and had a kid within a year. Yes, it made me think that I was sterile, but low and behold, ONE unprotected night with my current love and I am 38 weeks along now.

Sometimes it's meant to be and sometimes it isn't. But if you really are concerned about being sterile, you could get checked out by a doctor.

i know someone who had unprotected sex for 4 years and never got pregnant but when they split up an married other people they had no trouble getting pregnant. Some people just aren't meant to have kids together

Sounds to me like you may have what I have!!

I had unprotected sex for 4 years without getting pregnant & went to my dr & they did exploratory surgery & discovered I had endometrosis. It is a scarring on your uterine lining that prevents the fertilized egg from implanting.

I would call your dr & maybe discuss this, I was able to get pregnant, but my uterine lining did need to be scraped first!

Good luck! =)

Your timing with the boyfriend could have either been off (or on, depending on your point of view). Or he could have been sterile, or had a low sperm count. If you want to try to get pregnant, your best bet is to ask your doctor's opinion.

LOTS: DUM LUCK IS AT THE TOP OF THE LIST. Could be his sperm were weak swimmers; he had blanks,, your body was to resistant to his Bio make up. Have a Doctor check you out: they can test for that-being STERILE>< then you will know for sure about yourself.

Or maybe just lucky. Some people don't have an easy time getting pregnant. Why don't you go see your gyno if you're worried?

It means you were probably just lucky. YOu might have an issue with fertility but you'll have to wait until you actually try to have kids to see.

It probably means that one of you can't. See you doctor if it bothers you that much.
