i think you should just spend the extra money, because if you mess up the jeans, you're only wasting the 50-60 bucks you spent. i tried destroying like old jeans just to see, and it's not the same, plus overtime it gets TOO destroyed.

With a (non-electric) razor, Place a small block of wood (or anything similarly flat, solid, and sturdy) on the underneath side of the fabric where you want to create a distressed-looking area (e.g. put the wood inside the pantleg to work on the outside of the pantleg).
Use one hand to hold the jeans in place.
Shave in short, light strokes away from your hand across the area you want to distress, slowly wearing away the jeans. (It's almost like shaving yourself.)
Blow the lint out of the razor every few strokes so that it won't become clogged.
Move the block of wood to another area you want distressed and repeat steps 2 through 4.
Shave away from the hand that's holding the jeans in place so that you don't cut yourself if your shaving hand slips.
Check the surface of the jeans every few strokes of the razor to make sure you are not cutting holes through the fabric (unless you want holes).
Do not wear the jeans while shaving them

Abercrombie's overseas factories use a grinder. like the ones you use in metal shop and grind the garments. Also, you could try rubbing them with a rubber ball or tennis ball in the leg areas. This will take some time and effort but works. then wash a few times.

use a seam ripper and rip the fabric in the places that u want, then use tide bleach pen and add splatters. also put them into the washing mashine with rubber balls (playground handballs) add bleach and wash a few times. if the fabric starts to get to stiff (which i dont think will cuz the bounce from the balls will soften it) wash again with fabric softener and warm water! hope this helps!

you take a gun and shoot holes and then wash them. Take a sharp blade and lightly scrap it.
