When Dumbledore uses his patronus to send a message to the other members of the order, it implies that it's a phoenix and Jo later confirms this in an interview, though I don't remember exactly when this interview was. Fauxes is probably related to his patronus, but it's impossible to say how much.

I don't actually remember reading that. Where did you see it? After all it wasn't Dumbledore who taught Harry that trick.
