Vodka drinking in the sauna or something different for a change??

Yes, it is a holiday here. But no, unfortunately at least I won't be drinking vodka tomorrow, mainly because I have to get up early to work the following day. I'm quite sure this applies to most of the Finnish population (naturally there are some professionals who can get wasted one day and go to work the following day, but they tend to drink every other day anyways, so National Day is no exception here).

But what to do? Well, there are some sort of parades in most cities, so people could go to watch one of those. Sauna is a natural part of the evening, but I don't think it's a special tradition related to this day... We have sauna so often anyways. It's also a quite common to have TV on and watch the party held at presidential castle, where many celebrities are invited. Many families may have a special dinner prepared, and well... This is one of the holidays to spend some time with the family I guess. Nothing more, nothing less.

My Finnish friend had some friends round last night for dinner, then they watched a formal dinner from the Presidential Palace on TV. The Finns are a patriotic bunch.

The Norwegians are the ones who go mad on 17th May, their national day.
