Inverness is where perfect Queens English is spoken.

This is mainly due to the fact that the Duke of Cumberland's Government forces were stationed near Inverness and the Black Isles and the Culloden Battlefield where in 1746 they fought a battle between Bonnie Prince Charlie's Jacobite army which was the last major battle on British soil.

When you hear folk from Inverness speak you cannot distinguish between an Englishman and a Scotsman speaking.

The Culloden Memorial battlefield is maintained by donation and Scottish Heritage and the visitors centre is well worth a visit.

Scots probably have the best English because they have their own dialect but also listen to and understand a lot of media from England, Australia, America, New Zealand, South Africa. The English, even more so than the Scots, are only interested in the increasing value of their houses.

The answer I heard was that the best English speaker would be a cross between a Yorkshireman and a Invernessian because us Yorkies pronounce our vowels correctly and the Jocks their consonants!!!

I would have thought the best "Queen's English" would be spoken at Balmoral, or Windsor Castle, or Buckingham Palace.
