Because immigrants who are laborers probably don't have the leisure time, money, access to information or education that you do.

They speak Spanish in front of you because (DUH) that's the only language they know. That's why.

I can't believe what a racist question you asked, but at least you're asking it.

I'm sure German people find it rude when english people don't learn German either... so, what's your point? So what... they speak Spanish in front of you... if you really want to know what they are talking about, learn the language and then speak on it. I speak spanish (I actually learned it in School, go figure) and most of the times, the people speaking in spanish around me are not saying bad things about "white people" (as you eloquently put it... instead of Americans, thus showing your soft bigotted underbelly) but they are speaking with each other in Spanish because that is their native tongue and it is easier for them to communicate with each other that way. Rude... possibly... but I think it more rude to assume they are trash talking when you apparently don't know what is being said in the first place.

Also... what many americans tend to "forget" is that those spanish signs are not just catering to Mexicans and other foreigners. Lets not forget about Puerto Rico, which is considered a US terretory... and Spainish is the primary language there. Since it is a US terretory, Puerto Ricans' are allowed in the US... and... well... yea.
Also, I find the fact that some of you want this to be an "English" only nation to be unamerican. We were, afterall founded upon diversity. Gorw up, stop being lazy, and go learn some other languages... it will be a very enlightening experience...

If Americans decide that America is going to be an English only nation, THAT IS OUR RIGHT TO DECIDE THAT, PERIOD. Anyone who's so arrogant to think that we should cater to them by learning their language should just turn tail and leave.

When my grandparents immigrated from Germany, they didn't speak a word of English. That didn't stop them from learning it. Yes, it was hard (especially since they didn't have ESL stuff back then) but that didn't stop them from learning.

Don't worry, though. If you're going to be successful here in America, whether it's education, business, or society itself, then you'll need to speak English. Besides, English is a universal language. People all over the world would give their right arm just to speak it. English is going to be around for a long time.

This is a free country. People can speak any language they're damn pleased and if you don't understand it, your freaking problem. Learn Spanish. America doesnt' even have an official language.

I've wondered that too, the first part anyway. Many of us have to learn it to communicate with them (cops, nurses, doctors) I do know a lot of them are trying though. The reason they speak it in front of you is because that is there language, and you would if you could to. And most of the time, they're not talking bad about you.

Im married to a Philippine girl, shes from the other side of the world and she speaks english much better than most Mexicans, I think their schooling is messes up most speak very poorly and think this way if you didnt speak very well wouldnt you prefer to speak your native tounge, I get a headache hearing my wife on the phone with her friends talking Tagalog, cebrano, illongo etc,,But she trys to speak english and does rather well, but alot of others are very shy and are embarrassed they wont speak well so take that in mind, doesnt mean they are insulting others although alot of mexicans are rude people like the 2 that jumped in front of me in line at the store yesterday, I gave them an english lesson loudly haha.

Your question is incoherent.
........you say "Why can't Mexicans learn to speak english"
but after that you said. "Why do they speak spanish in front of you when they know english"

I dont understand you..
If they know english, it means that they could learn it. Do you know spanish? If you dont know it.........how do u know what they said?
Anyways.........at least they tried to learn another lang,.. did u do the same?

About why they speak spanish?, it's simple...they are talking between them, not for you to understand. It is their mother lang and is easier for them like that.

About "white pple"......Ohh my God !!!! here it is again !!!!!!!!!!!
Dont discriminate pple bcoz of the skin color. Mexicans are as much white as you are, in spite of you dont like it. Not all white pple are pale as you.

By the way.......I'm not mexican and i'm not black either. I'm only a person that likes to respect everyone, without care about the color, religion or lang.

Well depends on what type of "mexicans" your talking about. Some people actual immigrants come over and dont know the language very well so they feel comfterbel speaking in their native toungue, even if they know the language a bit. I my self am mexican-american and i speak english almost 90% of the time, but sometimes if your talking to another hispanic you just talk in spanish as second nature. Its not intended in disrespect. Trust me we dont walking around insulting white people in spanish, dont be so full of yourself.

The same reason why Americans don't bother to talk slowly and to articulate properly when they are talking English when visiting the European Continent (or any other country where people don't speak English) I guess?
