My home town, Dallas, Texas. I saw him only 10 minutes prior to his being shot, as he drove by us school kids in his motorcade. I can remember Jackie in her very pink dress and "pill box" hat, and him and Texas Governor John Conally in their darker suits sitting closer to us as we stood along the curb on the right hand side of the car. It was a "shocker" to hear, as we got back to our school "recess yard" that he had been shot. I first didn't think more of it than he must have got shot in the arm and would be okay. But then, I had only turned 12 years of age 5 weeks earlier, so I was thinking of all the Western shows I had watched on tv. My perspective drastically changed moments later when we got to our classroom and turned on the tv and saw the news coverage of his assassination, and what all had happened, and listened to the tv news' going on and on and on and on and on about every little detail they could drone onto us viewers about every possible little bit of information, whether it had much of any use as far as news went during those first moments after JFK had been rushed to Parkland Hospital and pronounced dead and LBJ was sworn in as the new President aboard Air Force One, with Jackie by his side. The assassination and investigation was a moment none of us who were there at the time will ever forget, if for no other reason than our being completely drowned by the news media's "coverage" of the event. And only last week, the History Channel still made reference to "John-John" (JFK, Jr.) as they thought JFK had called him and it sounded so "cute". As JFK and Jackie and the family had repeatedly said since then, JFK had only called out John's name twice, in quick succession, to get his attention, and it NEVER was a nickname for JFK, Jr. Oh well, the "news" media. God Bless you.
