Speaking in terms of the absolute there is only one consciousness. In relative terms, there are degrees of consciousness or how connected to the one we are.

I imagine it like this. Consciousness is like this, "i think, therefore, i am." What we are is based on what we do and how we feel (among a million other things). What we do beyond survival, how we feel about it, and how we feel about everything else 'colors' our experience. I think of emotions as colors by how they can blend. Skipping all manner of important backing information i will say i see the pure emotions as having their own region (think afterlife and fourth spatial dimensionally). Lust, fear, hate, love, or whatever have their own region, or sphere. These spheres blend with one another as in Venn diagrams. In these spheres are levels, as in a hierarchy, (ie parasite, demon, greater demon...angel, god, whatever) but between the different spheres there is no greater or lesser values, they are on equal footing with each other. As humans we have choices of what we will be and i believe that we can fit into that hierarchy for a certain sphere or spheres in some way, ie granted favors for being good and promoting the...whatever.

consciousness has no limits. thus, if one thinks in terms of levels, surely there are a vast number of levels from "lowest to highest", and thus a "hierarchy". but, if one thinks in terms of a continuum, etc....;-)
