The mind knows no past, present or future and everything is chronologically arranged, though in a jumbled sense. The memory retains what it wants whether essential or not and it is because of this that we find ourselves reviewing unpleasant memories. It's an inbuilt habit and there is nothing you can do to erase it, and the more you try to shut it out, the more vivid the memory. But to bring whatever is nagging your memory into the open, can sometimes be detrimental hence the persisting silence of keeping it under lock and key.

I have things in the back of my mind that I wish were not there and I could totally forget about them. Bring them out in the open...never.

Yes, I do. But, it is also late in the day to make a do about it, so I just learned to live with certain things. I try to see what I have learned from that time, situaton, and it kinda makes things easier when them images do pop up!! Sometimes we just have to move on...

I too have memories I wish could just be gone. I will not think about them for a long time, then they just pop up again.

The trick is to deal with them not keep forcing them to the back of your mind. counselling (is not seeing a shrink) is usefull to anyone. try it.
