Why do people insist that Islam is a religion of peace?

Why is it that whenever muslims kill thousands of civilians, and promote open warfare, kidnapping, torture, and murder, people still claim that Islam is a religion of peace. Mohammed told his followers to "Go out and convert, and if they wont convert, kill them" or "Go and kill them while they sleep". Mohammed also had a 6 year old bride, whom he slept with. Heres a comparison, Jesus cleaned his disciples feet to show servatiude. Mohammed cleaned the blood off of his friends sword. Christianity is spread through willful conversion, Islam: by the sword. If a derogetory cartoon of Jesus is released nothing happens. If mohammed isnt called Allah's holy prophet, Muslims kill innocent people and attack embassies. You cant criticize muslims, but they can say we are wrong? They also view other religions as infidels, and Mohammed told muslims to decieve other religions when they are the minority. This is why they pretend to be peaceful.

also, if this question is deleted, it will prove that people dont want to hear the truth from someone who has studied islam. Also, it proves that people only agree with freedom of speech when they agree with it

I'm not saying that all muslims kill people, but at its source, Islam teaches violence and encourages violence to spread islam.

thanks for asking this question, please keep it up just maybe some of these bleeding hearts will understand, you are right Mohammad told his servants to kill or convert and put millions to death or slavery , but no one seems to give a damn about that and will say all Muslims are not the same, when their religion is the same and if there were peaceful Muslims who wanted to live and let live where the hell are they? I haven't seen one stand up and say you are wrong and we will fight you , I truly believe fro my experience with them they are all sleeper cells in our country and are just waiting for the signal to rise up , think about it , no one has taken a stand against them from their own kind, it is obvious what they are taught in their faith , and they will kill their own family members for any violation of the Islamic faith , remember the Muslim who hung his own retarded daughter for having sex with a older man ,people open your eyes.

What makes you think Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, or Shintoism are any different? No religion can be peaceful, it is not part of the nature of any religion to vie for peace. The US has an openly Christian president killing hundreds of thousands of people in Iraq and Afghanistan. Israel is becoming (some would say it was so from the very beginning) a fanatical Jewish-Nationalist state, openly creating an apartheid regime which will soon result in a "pure" Jewish State. The Japanese killed 30 million, 30 MILLION Chinese using Shintoism as one of their guides for whatever excuses they felt they had to conjure up (they also said their invasion was a humanitarian intervention. Remind you of anything?). India had a fanatical Hindu party at the helm of its government very recently, a party that actively promoted the mass slaughter of thousands of Muslims.

You tell me of Jesus, yet those who claim to represent him (and that hold positions of power) have done nothing but slaughter others in his name. Come to think of it, Christ is quoted (as opposed to paraphrased) in the Bible in less than ten instances. The Bible itself is the most genocidal, blood-soaked book in history. What else could inspire the Crusades, the Inquisition, the genocide of Native Americans in both Americas, the Spanish-American War, the colonization of the African Continent, the slave trade, and so on? And if you think Christianity was spread through willful conversion, I beseech you to go do some research with Brazil's Native American population or read Orlando Villas-Boas' accounts. I point this particular country out for I am from here and believe you me, there was NOTHING willful about this conversion.

Don't kid yourself, son, it's all crap, all of it. It's all about control and attaining control through massive amounts of violence. Should you doubt me, do turn on the tube once in a while, see what the wondrous Christian nations of this world are doing in the Middle East, what Jews are doing in the Middle East, what the Muslims are doing in the Middle East and elsewhere (the Shintoists are currently taking a sabbatical). You may think you've studied Islam, and perhaps you have. Take the time, then, to study the rest, it'll all sicken you.

Modern Muslims seem to be a very peaceful religion. A small percentage are making all the trouble and it is causing some of their followers to become concerned and stand up to condemn the actions of the few. Hopefully, more will step forward to add their voice to the number of people in many nations to point out this perversion of a peaceful religious group. We (mainstream Muslims and western culture) are happy to live beside everyone. Sadly, the radical faction wants everyone else to convert or die.

I think the biggest reason so many people think its NOT a peaceful religion is that there isn't enough "peaceful" Muslims standing up against those who are terrorists. I mean, Christian groups condemn, openly and publicly, those who bomb abortion clinics. The same should hold true with Muslims, but it is not...instead they moan and whine that they should be able to be sworn in on a Koran in Congress and moan and complain when they are acting HIGHLY suspicious in an airport and they're taken off a plane...this is why so many people assume its a violent religion. Who knows, I'm not a Muslim, but I call em as I see em, and that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it (until they show me differently)

It seems like you are very angry with Muslims. But your question will give strength to the terrorists. I think when you are talking about Muslims who are killing other innocents you are talking about terrorists. Actually the terrorist do not belong to any religion. They miss use re legion for their own benefit. We can not blame all Muslims for blood shade. Lot of credit should go to US and Pakistani ISI for blood shade and promoting terrorist activities all around the globe. If you know Osama Bin Ladden was working for CIA (USA). Mr. Saddam was also close friend to USA. Now they have hired military dictator Parvez Musharraf(Pakistani Self appointed president). USA never think for long term effects of the business they do. They believe in dirty quick fix. Please don't take me wrong. I am not against USA. I like the US people most of them are very kind and helpful, but the US policies arn't too great.

Because that is what they believe. Christianity is no different. Christians claim to be seekers of peace despite their own religion’s history of bloodletting. On 9/11, both Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson said that it was the Christian God that brought down the Trade Towers, killing thousands of innocent people. They said God did it because he was mad at homosexuals (only homosexuals in America, I guess).
