why do teens do this? they use it as if being gay was bad! most of their clothing was designed by gays, so why dont they just refuse to wear it if they think its bad? just please explain!!

It's because
1) it's the current usage, no matter how bigoted and hurtful it is in reality, and
2) some of them don't have a big enough vocabulary to use words and phrases that they can come up themselves.
I feel this is a trend that should be drummed out of people ASAP. It's as bad as a racial slur.

People like me don't use it to mean homosexual, we use it because it's just lost all meaning. It's like calling something or someone stupid or retarded, even if they don't really have any physical or mental defects. It's the same way a lot of people will use 'jew' as an insult (note that I did not capitalize the 'J' because they do not use it in a religious sense) - well, sort of, only Jew really doesn't refer to anything but a Jewish person, whereas 'gay' did not originally mean gay. That being said, it is still similar, since the person using the term 'gay' or 'jew' is not really trying to say that being a homosexual or Jewish is a bad thing, but rather is just grossly misusing the word in a semi-comedic way in the form of an insult.

Why do certain teens embrace using the word "gay" as a synonym for "stupid" or "ugly"?
Why do certain teens listen to angry music that makes it cool to cut yourself?
Why do certain teens like to wear pants that would fit an elephant and shirts that look like ball-room gowns?
The answer to all of those questions is that they are teens; people trying to figure out themselves in an intense period of change in which their brain, attitudes, and physical appearances are all changing rapidly while still taking on far more responsibilities than they had before.
I used to do it too. Teenagers are very confused people. Most of them end up growing up.

Its fun for teen guys to insult each other. Its what guys do in general. And yes, being gay is a bad thing. Even though it is at a point where its more acceptable in society, being gay or OPENLY gay for that matter is taboo.

Because this is where immature minds go -- immature people insult each other and don't have more intelligent words to use to do so. Of course, they shouldn't do it at all, but if they're going to insult each other, the least they could do is be creative and specific about it.
Sorry Mr. Thumbtroll, but there is actual scientific evidence that children's brains are still developing through their teenage years.

I don't know but teens say that alot. For the most part they are not seriously hateful towards gays. They just think it (the word)sounds funny. I don't know why. I'm not saying it's right for them to say that, but it isn't meant to be taken personally.
