I took my daughter to the doctor a few days ago and the doc thought she had strep throat so he prescribed an antibiotic. Well today I got a call saying the test came back negative for strep. She was running a 102 fever with it though. And now for the past 2 days I have had an extremely sore throat. I cannot even eat because it hurts so bad. But it isn't strep the doc says. And I am running a little fever too (100). The doc says it could be sinus drainage or my allergies or a virus. But it has never hurt like this before. What else could it be? What do you think? I also have a headache.

Go get yourself tested for strep. I had some nasty bug a month ago... first test came back negative for strep... second one was positive. I was so excited to get in antibiotics, I cannot explain!

Listen, I don't mean to scare you, but I went through something like that a few years ago. I couldn't swallow, was tested and found negative for strep but the pain kept getting worse. As it turned out, I had a bacterial infection and my throat was closing up. I had to go into the hospital for 3 days to fix that one. Never knew where it came from either. Just INSIST that your general doctor write a prescription for you to see an Ear Nose and Throat specialist. Your insurance will cover it. Good luck

Mono? But I hear so sick with that it is hard to get up to go to the bathroom. I'll bet it is flu virus or something. I hope you feel better. Hot tea with lemon and honey sooth my throat and gargle with warm salt water.

Sounds like it could be mono or a virus.
