My eight year old son loves to listen to military/patriotic songs so for Christmas I want to get him an inexpensive MP3 player loaded with songs so he can listen to them on his own. Obviously, I don't want to spend a lot because the chance of something happening is high but then I don't want to buy junk either. So does anyone have any recommendations for a decent cheap MP3 player and where to find them at. THanks!

The best quality, inexpensive mp3 players are not going to be a well known "name" brand. The reason for this is obvious, the "known" brands have to pay for all of the advertising that they do! So you can forget the ipod, sony, zune, samsung, creative, sandisk, or any other well known brand! The quality is good, but all of these models are going to cost you much more than you need to spend. So what IS the correct answer you ask? Here goes.... Buy an inexpensive CHINESE made mp3 player! The quality of the newest batch of Chinese electronics is phenominal, and the prices are unbelievebly low. The only hard part is locating these inexpensive gems. My favorite web site for this purpose is www.computergeeks.com! They have a great, matchbox sized, silver mp3 player called the "sil-mmc-mp3-n" with a small lcd, great features, great sound, headphones, usb connection, and a 1 year warranty included for an unbelievable $16.00 + shipping! A single AAA battery (also included) will keep it playing for 8 hours! The only catch is that this unit has no internal memory, it uses SD cards instead (which are also used in digital cameras), but this is actually a blessing in disguise because it allows you to pick out an SD card with the amount of memory that you desire instead of being stuck with the limited "flash" memory built into the unit! Sd cards come with many different storage capacities. From 128mb (which I've seen on this same site for as low as $5.00!) and 256mb cards to 1GB and 2GB cards. For example, if you chose a 1GB sd card (these sell for about $30 on this same website), it'll allow you to record about 250 mp3s with this unit! But here's the best part, when you finish loading up the 1 GB card, you can remove it and replace it with another, fresh sd card without losing the 250 songs that you stored on the first card! In other words, it has a limitless expandable memory! When's the last time you heard of any of the "well known" brands allowing you to do that? I bought a few of these inexpensive units a couple of months ago to give as gifts and was thrilled by the high quality of the one I decided to keep for myself! I highly recommend them to anyone that wants a high quality, but cheap MP3 player. Good luck!

Wal-Mart has a wide selection of great cheap Mp3 players. You have to download the songs from the CD's though. At least the download is free!

Decide how much you want to spend and go to best buy, they have a wide selection. If you want to make a more educated purchase go to cnet.com and look at the reviews for all the mp3 players and choose based on size, price and ratings.
