I believe that any time you bleed during a pregnancy you should be checked asap. Sometimes spotting is normal but not sure about the dark type you are speaking of. To be safe she should not wait. I did spot during my second pregnancy in the beginning too and everything was ok. But it was a light not dark. But I did see a Dr. right away to be safe. If she can not see an obgyn right away a regular family Dr.might be able to help with thisfor now. Or some sort of a walk in emergency room??

I spotted with both my children and it was not a big deal. She can mention it to her ob/gyn when she get s an appointment, but you said it was a dark red/brown. That means it is old blood that was in her body being expelled. If it was bright red there would be more cause for concern. Tell her to rest and not to lift anything heavy, but everything should be fine. Also, congratulate her!

Even if she can't get to the dr. maybe she could get a blood test. The test will be able to check her hormone and hcg levels. The spotting could be a m/c or just implanting blood. Because it is brownish I would say it's implanting spotting, old blood (not a lot of oxygen to make it red). Make sure she stays hydrated. When I had my last m/c (before I knew it was a m/c) the doctor told me to drink at least 1 pint of water every hour.

There is such a thing as implantation bleeding.
They say it causes spotting, but I'm not sure how heavy or how long. Some women get it, and some don't. I would suggest searching the web for acurate info on the subject.

I am currently pregnant with my fourth child. During my first three pregnancies I had spotting in the very early months. The doctor called it implantation bleeding. It is completely normal, although it should NOT be accompanied by any cramping. If she has cramping too she needs to see a doctor. Good luck to her.

She needs to call her OBGYN and tell them she is spotting. I have read it is OK to spot early in pregnancy. Every person is different so she needs to go see her OB because it could be a problem. check out this website for more info www.babycenter.com
or whattoexpect.com
