Sorry but you have been misinformed.
My husband and I are Muslim and he has never treated me with nothing but respect.
My every need is taken care of and I have the freedom for do what I want when I want and with who I want.
I met my husband and he was the one who encouraged me to go back to school and finish my undergrad. I now have 2 BA's in psychology and history. He is still the one beside me pushing me to finish my PhD in history because he knows how much I want it.
But instead of seeing the truth I know that you will chose a person what will share your views. Still I am here to inform the rest of the world about the real Women of Islam.

Not all muslim men do! As is the case in the western world - if it's in ya it's out of ya! Whilst not being a great admirer of many aspects of the more extreme versions of islam, neither do many of the more extreme versions of christianity appeal. In both cases it appears that those with an axe to grind or a beef against the world are the ones who are most likely to shout the loudest, be the most oppressive, cause the most mayhem. The hardest thing to do with such bigotry and oppression is to ignore it, but the best thing to do is to recognise it and ignore it. Oh yes, and bring back capital punishment as the ultimate deterrent, lets get it right, if I kill wantonly and without thought for the consequences, I should be treated in the same fashion. Whether islamic or christian or atheist, wrong is wrong , evil is evil, and wfe beaters and abusers belong to their own separate cast - crawling below the belly of a snake wearing a top hat!

You are NOT lacking in open-mindedness. On the contrary you are seeing very clearly. You aren't falling prey to the Political Correct Mantra like many on this page.
I think there are kind people in every religion, and certainly some Muslim men are kind to women. But it is true that their very religious texts sanction cruelty to women. There just is no escaping that fact.
Unfortunately, the Muslim men who use Islam as a justification for mistreating the women in their lives, have louder (and more obnoxious) voices that the kind ones. . . :(
I don't think they should "all" be sent to prison or anywhere. I think that those who do physical harm to women should be punished according to the law. Unfortunately, in countries where Islamic Law rules, it isn't illegal.
All we can do is hope and pray their way of thinking and living evolves to become more civilized in the future.

Because they don't make any seense they read quran and thinks and believe in there faith and islam is a strong religion so they think they can treat them as wrong but islam don't say that u have to handle a girl like a pig islam said respect women and she will rspect u of course..

Please differentiate between a muslim, someone who may be American or western who has western cultural views on women, and someone from the middle east, who has middle eastern views on women.
It's no where near as much the religion as the culture.
