According to the National Christmas Tree Association and Dr. Gary Chastagner, Washington State University, "your best bet is just plain tap water. It doesn't have to be distilled water or mineral water or anything like that. So the next time someone tells you to add ketchup or sprite something more bizarre to your tree stand, don't believe it."

Most experts insist that good old water is all you need to keep your tree fresh through Christmas.

Q.How can I keep a tree from drying out?

There are several innovative ways to make sure a tree stays as fresh as possible. The first is an easy-to-use spray-on anti-transpirant liquid called WiltPruf to reduce moisture loss in trees. Simply spray onto the needles, let it dry for an hour or so, and bring your tree indoors to decorate as usual.

Tap water works fine. Try giving it warm water, it softens the sap at the cut point so the tree can absorb more water. Also if you have a humidifier or vaporizer that helps too.
