i'm especially thinking of those with what i would have thought to be a distinctly british style or sense of humour? (eg shaun of the dead?)

well I haven't seen a lot and I have to admit that I really don't get some British humour...but since you mentioned it Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite comedies to come out in the past few years...absolutely hilarious

If you are speaking of comedic films then Americans hate them because they do not get British humour.

I love the Harry Potter movies, always been a fan of Monty Python's flying circus movies...I know Benny Hill isn't a movie but I love his show's.

not enough car chases and explosions and too many big words, fake crowd laughter after any funny bit is added to most stuff for export to the us so they know when to laugh....
