Birds are great pets. We have a quaker parrot, she gets a bit loud about once a day. But birds are very affectionate and love human contact, if raised that way from a young age. they require a lot of mental stimulation, lots of toys and a nice big cage, and a good healthy diet, not a seed based diet, but a pellet based diet. Birds have the mentality of a five year child. They are quite amazing. Most can talk. Not songbirds though. They usually are not ones you handle and play with, they are just pretty and sing so nice.

Cybils in bits- They need to be held more than once a week. Try like at least one or two hours a day. And they need too be part of the family or they get aggresive. You should not give advice if you have no knowledge.

this is an impossible question to answer.. because what is right for you may not be right for somebody else...
a person with no time should NEVER get a dog or a bird
dogs and birds (esp the larger birds) are intelligent and require alot of human interaction in order to be happy.. some dogs are more intelligent than others and will become destructive if their mental needs are not met (eg. Border Collie.. Jack Russell Terriers) Parrots too....
cats are ok if you dont have much time.. but 2 are better than one...
fish are nice but are not as easy as people think they are (tank cleaning etc)
hamsters are not good pets - they are awake at night so can be noisey
Guninea Pigs and Rabbits are good for smaller pets.. Guinea Pigs talk so are more bondable.. but both require cage cleaning

if you have land.. I highly reccommend sheep.. if you get them from a petting zoo they are friendly - easy to care for - can eat grass in the summer so dont cost you anything except in winter time.. and are nice (I have sheep).. llamas too.. they guard the sheep

so really it depends on you

NEVER get a pet like a cat or dog if you rent and may have to move - its VERY hard to find a place that allows pets and all to often people abandon pets becuase they are "moving" and landlord wont allow it

OH - OF COURSE .. the BEST place to get a pet is your local SPCA or other ANimal shelter.. the WORST place is a pet store - they charge too much for lower quality pets AND they exploit them for profit and support the cruel industry of puppy/kitty mills

Pet Rats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every wanted a small dog but couldn't afford it, or didn't have the time to walk it? Get a rat, we in the Fancy call them palm dogs.

A rat has the intellence level of a 3 year old child and combines the behavior and antics of a child, a dog, a cat, a monkey, and oh yea, they also act like rodents. I'm only reminded of that when I hear someone who is free-ranging chewing on the reinforced baseboard in their room.

Don't be put off by that. All pets can do some kind of damage in your home. I've seen human children do the worse kind of damage.

Pet rats love humans and will readily interact with their owners any time of the day. I had one boy who, when free-ranging, would run up to my feet, stand on his hind legs and reach up with both front legs, asking to be picked up.

Easy to care for if you have just a couple. I have over 80 rats so it gets a little more complicated to care for them.

Oh BTW, every animal carries Salmonella, including humans. If you keep yourself and your pets clean you will not be affected by it.

Don't know if you have a yard or live in a small apartment. With a yard, dogs are always good, but they do need running space even if you do walk them daily. Cats are good if you can handle them being cats, running around, climbing up the back of your furniture, sharpening their claws on everything. If you want a pet that you can put away after you played with it and the day is over I'd say a rat. They do make fine pets.

I have dogs and cats, I have had fish, birds, rabbits, hamsters and even a hermit crab. Cats, Dogs and birds live the longest. So if you are soft hearted get the fish or hermit crab, you won't get so attached. If you want companionship get the dog or cat. They will love you forever. My cat is 15. Dogs need so much attention. If you have extra time for love and attention dogs are great. Cats give love and attention but only on their terms. Birds are amusing but messy. Try fostering a pet from your local animal shelter. This will help them, and help you make the right choice for you.

Of all the mammals- cats. They are small, affectionate, clean, independent, and easy to care for.

I still prefer reptiles, especially snakes. They are easy, beautiful, and fascinating pets. The chances of contracting salmonella are virtually zero as long as you wash your hands after handling them (hand sanitizer is a wonderful thing), and don't try to stick a turtle in your mouth...

Personally a fish they live in a tank and don't really do much, you only need to feed then about every other day. If you want a pet you can interact with a bird would also be good because they don't need much care also they just need held at lest once a week.

It depends on the person and their lifestyle. Cats are good in apartments. They are easily litter boxed trained and they don't usually mind if you are gone all day. Dogs need a lot more one on one time and a lot more training. They get bored if you leave them home alone a lot. Having a puppy is a lot like having a new baby, but dogs are wonderful companions.

Children are good pets. The best part is as they get older, you can train them to use the the toilet, take out the trash, rake leaves, dishes, etc. Plus they are an awsome source of amusement.

I like dogs, they are fun to play with. Very loyal and you can train them to have some of your traits, whether you want to or not they just end up that way. It's nice to have a pet to come home to you know.
