Seed packets or the tags stuck in the pots of live plants will tell you how far apart to plant the species you select. It is wise to be fairly careful in following the directions. Plant too far apart, and your garden will appear sparse. Plant too close together, and you may promote various plant diseases and pests. figure out the square footage of your bed. and check the label of the plants you are going to buy and see what spacing they recommend. example,6 inches apart--2 plants per foot in both directions. width and length. of garden space.

you'll need to know how far apart off center you'll be planting them. then plot them out in the area they'll be planted in.

figure out how much the roots spread-it's OK if the roots touch eath other but not to the point of killing each other..
