I've been scrapping for over 10 years and the best advice I can give my clients is to not buy stuff just because someone tells you to and don't buy tools until you know you'll use them. There are so many albums to choose from that it will probably take you awhile to figure out the one you like best. Pick out the papers and embellishments that you are attracted to and eventually you'll have supplies that coordinate.

Try to find someone who would be willing to guide you and not just load you up with whatever they sell. Even though I have my own business, I often take newbies to their local stores and give my opinion on the essentials and the over-priced and tacky stuff.

It comes down to a pen, paper, scissors/trimmers and adhesive.
Have fun!

For the very basics, Walmart is fine. If you go to JoAnne's or Michael's, be sure to look for their coupons first because they're more expensive, although to their credit, Michael's has a pretty decent selection for scrapbookers.

If you don't mind taking a class, look for an archivers. Some of their classes for beginners are free and their other classes are reasonable. The one class I took from them was for a clock. For $20, I ended up with a BEAUTIFUL clock that even my husband loved, even though I must have had about a half a dozen photos of my older and late relative on it. It now hangs in my living room and I got lots and lots of wonderful compliments on it. Their website has a store locator so you can find the nearest one to you.

Is there a Creative Memories consultant in your area? Check their web site, they have wonderful scrapbooking supplies, good quality. I started using Creative Memories after being invited to a home party and got hooked. The consultant that I bought my supplies from always had great ideas for me and helped me simplify things.

www.scrapbookscrapbook.com

You can download for free loads of backing papers/frames etc for your scrapbooking, all different themes, birthdays,Christmas.
Vintage...thanksgiving. .Holidays..etc. printed words.

to start you will need a scrapbook (from good Craft Shops)
I don't know where you are from so am unable to suggest names of companies). double sided tape, fancy scissors, few embellishments, and of course your photographs.

i think Michael's or JoAnn's would be a great place to start..they have packets that include colored/printed papers, there's also special scissors that cut pretty designs.... some even come w/ an album already. :) good luck
