I just read that Aishwarya Rai and Hrithrik Roshan are being sued in court for obscenity due to the Kissing Scene that did in the Bollywood movie Dhoom2.

Indian Nationals, please help me understand:

1. I understand nudity in most asian cultures are considered immodest and obscene, but why is kissing considered so as well?

2. The Kama Sutra decribes way more than a simple movie scene, I wonder why that was not banned?

3. Are they still liable for being sued if say, they did such a scene in a Hong Kong movie or a Hollywood movie?

Thank you... this post is not meant to be a challnge, but I am trying to understand better. This is the first time I have heard that actors are being charged/sued for obscenity over a "kiss" scene.

1. Bollywood films sometimes have lots of provocative costumes, postures, gestures, and dance moves. Some as bad (good) as what you see in Soft Porn, but NO KISSING. It's not allowed by the sensor board, no matter how out-dated even by Indian standard.
That being said, on average Indians as a group is more Conservative than the West. However, there are a lot of Indian whose sensibility towards such matter have gradually improved (deteriorate, if you have traditional moral values). Though, you will be surprised that it's changing quickly, and lots of young people have open opinion towards sex (who might not actually practise what they believe because of their consideration for their parents.)

2. Are you talking about the movie Kama Sutra, or the book, or the carving in the monument of Khajuraho?

3. Foreign move have to go through sensor board as well. They will cut whatever considered not suitable.

India is a fascinating country with very diverse culture. I am glad this incident prompt you to be more interested!
