Its not about cost its about caring, however to enable the individual to reach a speedy recovery or peaceful death, the resources must be there and managed effectively by people who have had first hand experience of caring in a unresourced area. Then they can make decisions on what is cost effective.

In what setting?
Actually, it should ALL be cost effective - it is someone's money being spent, and should be a true reflection of the care given. Too often care is charged at extortionate rates, for what is little better than abuse - this is what the Care Standards & Social Care Inspection is for. This governs all Nursing & Domicilairy care.
As for the NHS - it's your taxes being spent - don't you want it to go further?

to me there is no such thing. i know this may seem silly to a lot of people but when nursing comes down to money it means that the people who are being cared for are not so important anymore the things that are important to the person being cared for should always be the most important to the carer but you hear so many stories about hospitals and care homes that neglect people because they dont have the money to look after them properly but often im most cases all the hospitals and care homes care about is breaking even and/or making a profit. the trouble is they will do anything at all to achieve this weather this means skimping on the heating or the cleaning or the food

nursing care should be patient centered not based around cost. The NHS and private care settings are worryin too much about money and not enough about the health and well being of the patients.

There is no such thing. Medicare and the government have ruined that. Cost effective, by today's standards, means hurry them in and out. It's all about the numbers.
