this happened to me a year or two ago. and i ended up having to re-install everything on my system.

first try to run system restore. if that fails double check the drivers are installed and it shows up in the system area of the control panel.
you may need to remove and re-install the drivers for your motherboard.
however one other option is to check your systems BIOS/CMOS to check that it appears there.
if it does the drivers are at fault somewhere.
if not the drive it self may have died (it happens) and you need to buy a new one) see www.dabs.com for a list of optical drives (cd/DVD etc)
no driver means the driver has been removed. the only thing to do is boot the system with your original install disk and then first backup any personal data that may be on the system. and then run system restore.

i am allways having problems with my cd/dvd drives ,and i have found one easy way to fix them
were you have the dvd roms ect in device manger ,just uninstall the device and re-start the computer, then when windows starts up again,it will recognize a new device(your dvd-rom) and then install the drivers for it
certain software and programs can play havoc with your drivers and devices such as nero burning software and macromedia flash player
try this ,it will work as its a tried and tested method i have been using for years
good luck

mine did that last week, turn it off and when it first starts up again eject the disk if there was one in there. It should show back up

Hi. If restarting the computer doesn't detect the drive, you may have an extremely nasty virus - please take immediate action or you could lose everything, bit by bit.
