It could be because when you are breastfeeding you tend to have a large appetite just as you did when you were pregnant, only the baby isn't sucking it all out of you anymore. Just change your eating habits. Don't worry about your breastmilk, it will still provide everything your baby needs. Plus, breastfeeding causes you to lose weight also because your baby is taking thousands of calories from you. Start eating the fresh veggies and cheerios or something. Up your exercise a bit and you'll be back to normal in no time at all! Good luck!

My experience was very different. I actually came out of pregnancy weighing less than I did when I got pregnant. I started at 165 and after delivery weighed 150. I only gained 15 pounds during pregnancy.
And yes, I ate well and took vitamins AND my doctor was fine with the weight gain.
Then, after I delivered, I actually put on weight! 5 pounds so far...weird....

I did. At first I lost a lot of weight and was looking good, then I started putting on weight, and slowly by 7 months I had put on a good ten pounds. It made me fill horrible and everyone told me when you breastfeed you lose weight and get back quicker, and that is not true for everyone.
All I can suggest is try working out and eating healthier, I know as a new mom eating great isn't always #1 on your list.

I had the same problem! I really did not start to lose the weight until I quit breastfeeding. I had gestational diabetes and a restricted diet when I was pregnant. So when I delivered I pigged out! My daughter is 18 months and I'm still working on the last 5 lbs!

There is a thing called hypo thyroidism and it can cause wheight gain. It is a common problem in new mothers since the gland is controlled by hormones- You should discuss the wheight gain with your doctor immediately. There could be an underlying problem.
