Gift certs to the local supermarket or Edible Arrangements are nice.

Food delivery is nice. You might consider a gift certificate at a nice restaurant or perhaps a night at a Bed and Breakfast in a scenic area (sounds within your budget based on a monthly delivery of food).

I can relate, it's hard buying for my grandma, she doesn't really need or want much. One thing she does enjoy though is when I put together a gift basket full of her favorite snacks, candles, etc. She gets a bigger kick out of that then if I were to go out a buy her something expensive.
One year I bought a nice picture frame and reproduced an old picture of her and my grandfather. That got her tears going, but she really liked it.

Your idea sounds like a great idea! Maybe someone who would come in and do a good thorough cleaning, maybe someone who would do all their errands - grocery shopping, paying bills, picking up their meds.

But I do like your idea the best above my suggestions...my grandparents were able to get out before they passed away, but had they not been able to get out and do for themselves that would have been a perfect gift!

Give me a spa certificate anytime...a cruise would be nice...a limo rental to go to a concert. No lap robes for this old lady, a liter of VSOP brandy would be nice. Don't assume that all old folks are feeble...remember some of us 70 year olds were at the Summer of Love.

I think a food thing would be really a great idea. Make sure one of them isn't diabetic.

Or, something like a pillow for the couch with a saying on it, that would remind them of you. Or a book.

Older folks love anything useful. I would suggest a set of bowls or towels, something along those lines. Good Luck!!!

You would be surprised at how much they would appreciate the smallest thing in the worl even a jar of fancy jam. As we get older we learn to appreciate friendships and kindness more than anything else and even a visit is nice

How about, if they drink coffee, get the coffee, sugar, creamer etc. Or just things around the home that you know they will use, like paper towels, toilet paper, and things like that.
