Did you ever notice, when you are sitting at a red light, that when the person in front of you pulls up a couple of inches, you are compelled to move up too? Do we really think we are making progress toward our destination? "Whew, I thought we would be late, but now that I am nine inches closer, I can stop for coffee and a danish!"

I've noticed, but don't really know if that is the thought going through peoples minds. I know i have been that person who moves those nine inches on more than one occasion. I think it is just one of those things we do out of reflex. A car is meant to be driven not sitting.

That is very funny. Actually, I noticed others doing that, and I will think of your anaolgy everytime I see it from now on. I try not to do it because I find it hilarious when other do it. However, I catch myself inching up once and a while then all I can do is laugh at myself. Have a great day!

lmao@ this question....I feel like people are trying to compete with me when they do this... most of the time i move up too... other times i make them think they're gonna get ahead..and when the light turns green I peel out..(gotta love fast cars)...and if I'm feeling really competitive ..I'll switch lanes and get in front of them and go really slow... so much for the danish and coffee suckers!!

I'm not making any progress with my destination..but damn it feels good to win!

well, nine inches in this day and age means MONEY!!
No, I do that sometimes because of the sensor at the traffic light. If I'm the first one in line, it often changes after I do that.

Yes and when the light turns green you have to drop the hammer to make that merge on the other side of the intersection in approx. 4.5 seconds or he gets the inside track to the next light.

Oh, yep, it is the impatient nature of the beast. That nine inches could make the difference of one nano second in your arrival time and you have to take advantage of them as often as possible because they really add up!

YES, and isn't that so funny. And I'll bet that 90% of people do that and the 10% that don't get honked at by the driver behind them, Hey buddy , move it, are you blind or something.

Thanks for sharing, that was a good observation.

Yes, I know...or when you see that the light has changed for the crossing traffic, you are compelled to creep forward, before the light changes for you...
